And now for the details.
Business Challenge
Soccour Solutions is a Dallas-based Business Solutions Provider. One of its clients creates seismic and geological interpretation software for the oil and gas industry. When analyzing where to drill, any mistake can cost thousands of dollars. This software makes it possible to quickly and confidently analyze geoscience data, ensuring that the oil and gas companies are able to successfully find and drill oil while reducing unnecessary costs.
The software suite is typically run via an on-premises, physical workstation. However, because the COVID-19 pandemic requires more workers to stay home, the customer wanted to offer the flexibility of a SaaS solution that could run on the major public cloud vendors. The one thing the software required was a high-performance solution to meet the software’s 3D visualization demands and to run high volumes of data.
Results and Next Steps
40-60% faster than on-premises physical workstations, Silk instantly proved its ROI for Soccour’s client. “It used to be that the users would fire up the data loading process on the software, walk away, grab coffee, do some water cooler talk, and then come back an hour later to find the data loaded,” David Duncan, Principal Solutions Engineer at Soccour explains about the software’s performance when it was run from an on-premises physical workstation. “On native AWS, we were seeing a maximum speed of 1.6MB/s. But with Silk on AWS, we saw 400MB/s. That increase in speed really is incredible!”
The additional burst of speed means that software users will be able to see the results of oil and gas explorations faster and allow excavations to get underway quickly to meet market demands. “With the current economic environment, where cloud is more of an option with people working from home, we know other clients are going to need this solution. We’re thrilled to be able to bring them a product that we trust,” says Duncan.
