Silk for Oracle: The Silk Road from On-Prem to Azure

Oracle has been a leader in the database world for decades. As enterprises accelerate cloud adoption, they face the challenge of moving mission-critical Oracle workloads — including Exadata — from on-prem to the public cloud without sacrificing performance.

Performance for Data-Intensive Workloads

Silk offers on-prem-or-better performance with the ability to dynamically scale up and down as workloads change. With proven performance of more than 1M IOPS and 20 GB/s throughput at consistent sub-millisecond latency, any Oracle workload can run in the public cloud.

Cost Efficiency

Oracle's licensing model can inflate costs quickly in the cloud, since Oracle's Core Factor Table doesn't apply to Authorized Cloud Environments. Silk's architecture overcomes IaaS performance limitations and throttles, allowing the use of fewer VMs with fewer vCPUs — directly reducing license exposure. Silk's inline data reduction also compresses and deduplicates databases without additional license costs.

Resiliency

Since Oracle RAC is only supported in Oracle's own cloud, customers moving to Azure need alternative resiliency architectures. Silk provides a no-single-point-of-failure architecture with full availability across zones, regions, and even clouds.
