SimCorp Accelerates Customer Adoption of SaaS Platform With Silk

To make a long story short...

Who are they?

SimCorp is the global leader in Investment Management solutions.

What did they need?

Consistent, resilient and high system performance as they adopt Azure for their SaaS offering.

How did Silk help?

Silk gave them the response time that they needed in order to successfully provide a SaaS offering to customers.

What were the results?

20% faster performance on the cloud than on previous on-prem set-up for SimCorp’s largest client.

And now for the details.

SimCorp Overview

SimCorp is the global leader in investment management solutions serving 40% of the world’s top financial companies. Its core product, SimCorp Dimensions, is used by more than 200 global clients and provides efficiency and flexibility in managing all assets from one platform. First developed in 1995, SimCorp Dimensions has been sold only as an on-premises software for the past 25 years.

Business Challenges

With recent market demands shifting to Software as a Service (SaaS), SimCorp looked to transition the SimCorp Dimensions application in that direction. The team chose to lift and shift the application to the Microsoft Azure cloud due to the time and effort it would take to refactor to be cloud native. One factor that gave them pause: achieving consistently high performance on the cloud. SimCorp customers require this yet the team was running against cloud limitations to achieve the consistent and high performance that they needed.

“I would recommend other companies to use Silk because of their ability to provide you with the right level of performance and resiliency. You get a partner that is truly invested in your success. With Silk, we are able to get closer to the promise of the cloud.”
Ulrik Elstrup Hansen | Vice President and Head of SaaS Innovation

Introducing Silk

SimCorp turned to Silk to help. The Silk Cloud Virtualization Platform makes it possible to achieve faster performance on the cloud compared to native cloud alone along with consistent sub-millisecond latency. This makes Silk ideal for migrating applications, like SimCorp Dimensions, that struggle to get consistently high performance on the cloud natively.

Results

With Silk, SimCorp was able to migrate one of its largest clients from an on-premises setup using the most expensive compute and storage solution to its SaaS offering. They found that Silk made it possible for the client to see 20% faster performance compared to the client’s previous on-premises setup.

“I would recommend other companies to use Silk because of their ability to provide you with the right level of performance and resiliency,” said Ulrik Elstrup Hansen, VP and Head of SaaS Innovation at SimCorp. “You get a partner that is truly invested in your success. With Silk, we are able to get closer to the promise of the cloud.”
